Join Robbie Lobell, for this exciting 10-day hands-on workshop about clay cookware. Participants will be introduced to working with high-fire flameware for making cooking pots. Students will gain a solid foundation for working with a flameproof clay body and for ideas to take shape in the form of pots for the kitchen to the table. Stovetop pots, casseroles, broilers, bakers, roasters, skillets, saucepots, oven/pizza stones, kettles, trivets are all possible forms that may be investigated. Through demonstrations and lively discussion, we will stretch our skills and thinking in the realm of handmade clay cookware. Participants will gain a solid foundation for working with flameware, and for ideas to take shape in the form of clay cookware for slow food and a healthy world.
This workshop is designed for students with a solid foundation in wheel-forming as we will begin our pots in the round on the potter’s wheel and alter into a variety of shapes for practical and beautiful cooking pots. Glazing and firing techniques will be covered in detail with handouts of clay and glaze recipes.
We will take a break from the studio on a few occasions to take in cultural opportunities offered by southern France.
